Job Spec:
We are seeking an experienced Performance Tester to define and deliver the non-functional test approach for a complex, highly customised SharePoint Subscription Edition (SE) platform and its supporting AWS-hosted infrastructure.
The role will be responsible for developing realistic performance test scenarios, establishing baselines across application, database, infrastructure and integration layers, and executing load, stress, scalability and resilience testing to validate platform performance under expected and peak conditions.
This is a hands-on delivery role requiring strong analytical capability, close collaboration with architects, engineers and the Test Manager, and the ability to turn performance findings into clear recommendations that support technical governance, operational readiness and go/no-go decisions.
Main Responsibilities:
- Define the performance testing approach for the SharePoint Subscription Edition platform and its supporting AWS infrastructure
- Develop performance test scenarios covering expected user activity, document operations, search behaviour, integration traffic and core business
- Agree scope, entry criteria, assumptions and success measures for performance proving activities across delivery stages
- Ensure performance testing aligns with programme priorities, environment constraints and non-functional requirements
- Execute load, stress, scalability and resilience testing to confirm the platform can operate within agreed performance and capacity expectations
- Use performance testing tools to simulate realistic workload patterns, transaction volumes and concurrent user behaviour
- Support performance validation during environment proving, migration activities, cutover rehearsals and production transition
- Maintain high-quality performance test artefacts, evidence packs and execution records
- Establish performance baselines across the SharePoint platform, SQL Server, AWS infrastructure, storage, network and integration layers
- Analyse results to identify bottlenecks, constraints and tuning opportunities across application, infrastructure, database and network components
- Work with architects, engineers and the Test Manager to assess performance risks and recommend improvements to throughput, latency, stability and scalability
- Provide clear performance reports, findings, evidence and recommendations to support technical governance and go/no-go decisions
- Present outcomes, risks and constraints clearly to delivery leads and technical stakeholders
- Support assurance reviews by providing traceable evidence of performance proving activity and key findings
- Support performance validation during environment readiness, migration proving, cutover rehearsals and production transition
- Confirm that performance entry and exit criteria are understood and evidenced at key delivery stages
- Work with delivery and technical teams to identify performance-related dependencies, constraints and readiness risks
- Contribute to operational readiness by ensuring performance monitoring, alerting and capacity considerations are understood and handed over to support teams
- Plan and coordinate performance testing activities across delivery stages, environments and dependencies
- Define performance test scope, assumptions, entry and exit criteria, and success measures for each proving cycle
- Identify, track and communicate performance-related risks, issues and constraints, with clear recommendations for mitigation
- Support forward planning for future test cycles, release readiness and non-functional proving activity
- Take ownership of performance testing deliverables, evidence and reporting across the agreed scope
- Ensure non-functional requirements are measurable, testable and validated through appropriate performance proving activity
- Work closely with architects, engineers, support teams and programme leadership to ensure performance considerations are addressed across design, delivery and transition
- Support assurance and governance activities by providing clear, traceable evidence of performance outcomes, risks and recommendations
Key Skills:
- Proven experience in performance testing on complex enterprise platforms, ideally within SharePoint, collaboration platforms or similarly integrated environments
- Experience designing and executing load, stress, scalability and resilience tests across application, infrastructure, database and integration layers
- Strong understanding of performance bottleneck analysis, baseline establishment and tuning recommendations
- Experience working in multi-supplier or large programme delivery environments with close collaboration across test, engineering and architecture teams
- Hands-on experience with performance and test tooling such as NeoLoad, JMeter and Visual Studio
- Working knowledge of .NET / C# and basic SQL to support scripting, data validation and analysis activities
- Experience using Jira, Confluence and GitLab to manage test activity, documentation, defects and change control
- Useful additional experience with Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, RestAssured and Postman
Desirable:
- ISTQB certification and/or relevant AWS certification
- Familiarity with AWS-hosted environments, SQL Server, network and storage considerations, and integrated enterprise platforms
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present performance findings, risks and recommendations clearly to technical and delivery stakeholders
